ALABAMA (WHNT) — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has launched a Spanish-language version of its Baby Yourself maternity app, aiming to improve access to prenatal and postpartum care for the state’s growing Hispanic population.
Blue Cross Blue Shield covers over 2 million Alabamians. The state is home to more than 250,000 Hispanic residents, many of whom live in rural areas where maternity care is limited. These communities often face barriers to care, including a lack of OBGYN providers and birthing hospitals.
The Baby Yourself in Spanish, Blue Cross is “making maternity care more inclusive, ensuring expectant mothers—regardless of language—can access the education and support they need for a healthy pregnancy,” the company noted in its announcement.
The expansion comes in response to data showing that Spanish-speaking mothers are disproportionately affected by late or insufficient prenatal care. The new app provides trimester-specific updates, educational resources, and direct access to nurses—all in Spanish.
Built-in Spanish-to-English translation also ensures smooth communication between patients and healthcare providers.
The company said the launch underscores its ongoing commitment to expanding healthcare access and supporting diverse populations across the state.
More information about the Baby Yourself program is available on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama website.
