Residents of a complex in Miami Beach said their bikes were stolen and that the potential suspects were caught on surveillance video.
Annette Snyder said she had her e-scooter parked in front of the complex off 78th Street on July 21 when cameras captured the moment it was stolen.
“It’s very upsetting, and I feel very unsafe,” Snyder said.
The footage shows a person, wearing a bucket hat, riding their bike to a pole that has Snyder’s e-scooter chained to it.
They remove the chain – and the pole – before taking off with the e-scooter.
“I thought the pole was a safe place,” Snyder said. “I thought, they can’t get the pole, I had no idea you could unscrew it so easily.”
At around the same time, her neighbor, Itai Bronshtein, said his first bike was stolen inside the lobby.
Then on Monday, surveillance video from inside the lobby shows two people coming down the stairs and leaving with what Bronshtein claims is his second bike that was inside the lobby.
“I left it in the lobby with the intent to go inside, kick my feet up, and then go back down and ride again. And when I came back down, my bike was gone,” he said.
Snyder and Bronshtein believe the thieves could be residents in the building.
Police were seen outside the complex talking to residents on Thursday.
Miami Beach Police told NBC6 that they are actively investigating the petty theft cases and believe they have found one possible suspect in the case of Bronshtein’s bicycle.
As for Snyder’s e-scooter, they are still investigating other surveillance video to find out who that thief might be.
