NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Most-humid conditions are still present in Southern to Eastern New Mexico as rain has mostly ceased except for a few lingering showers with rumbles of thunder in the high elevations to southeastern areas. East-gap winds are a bit gusty but are mostly calming slightly after yesterday’s stormier activity. Way-above-freezing temperatures are still once again confined to most of the higher peaks of the Northern Mountains with valley floor locations mostly starting off in the 40s or in the 50s. Elsewhere is mostly starting off in the high 50s to the lower 70s.
Stronger westerly to northerly upper-level winds are forming with still plenty of moisture in place as a high pressure system shifts northwest of the Four Corners, but few rounds of Monsoonal thunderstorms will form once again because of upper-level drier air still moving in from the east. Rain will fall across most mountainous areas still, including more areas in the Four Corners. With fewer clouds, the sinking, compressing air mass will allow for afternoon temperatures to rise slightly more than yesterday, except for some Four Corners areas. High temperatures will still be above normal for most, mostly reaching the 70s, 80s and 90s, while areas in the high elevations may not get out of the high 60s. Flash flooding will be less likely with few pockets of hail in the stronger storms, as well as few outflow winds.
Moisture is still in place, but the pendulum swing pattern of muggy mornings out east with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons forming storms to the east will still continue though. Fewer rounds of storms will form in the short term with conditions heating up and drying out for most before the Monsoon really kicks in once again this weekend with wetter conditions being accompanied by lower temperatures.
