Checked out the new six-part ESPN documentary series about the Chiefs, “The Kingdom,” directed by Kristen Lappas, and there are two things that immediately jump out at you the moment the final credits roll.
One: If you are inclined to like the Chiefs (FULL DISCLOSURE: As I will explain later, that would include your humble narrator), you will not only enjoy the full access Lappas and her crew received last season, you’ll eat up the deep dive into the team’s colorful history, and especially the franchise’s continued devotion to founder Lamar Hunt.
Two: If you hate the Chiefs — and it is a fairly safe bet the Chiefs, somewhat improbably, have become both the most reviled and most revered franchise in professional sports right now — then this six-part ode to all things Reidian/Kelcian/Mahomesian will probably have you sprinting for the nearest air-sickness bag.
Which brings us to a fascinating new reality in sports.
