DENVER (KDVR) — One of parents’ greatest fears is watching their kid leave for college, moving out of the safety of their home and into the big, wide world out there.
One group of parents who might worry about the dangers a little bit less are those of students who attend Colorado State University, Fort Collins, as a recent study performed by Allstate revealed that students at CSU are among the safest drivers in the United States.
Fort Collins was ranked as the No. 3 city where drivers are least likely to get into a crash.
The surrounding community deserves a pat on the back as well for its role in keeping the streets of Fort Collins free of crashes.
The top 10 safest driving cities include:
Ranking | City | Relative collision likelihood compared to national average |
1 | Brownsville, Texas. | -25.9% |
2 | Boise, Idaho | -24.1% |
3 | Fort Collins, Colo. | -21.0% |
4 | Cary, N.C. | -18.3% |
5 | Relative collision likelihood compared to the national average | -17.7% |
6 | Olathe, Kan. | -17.3% |

8 | Port St. Lucie, Fla. | -15.3% |

Fort Collins’s good ranking seems to follow a trend that sees college towns practice safe driving habits, as Boise, Madison and Eugene, which are all college towns, cracked the top 10.
The 10 cities where drivers are most likely to crash include:
