Ochsner Health, in partnership with the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, announced plans to build a new $45.6 million medical complex in Jefferson Parish aimed at expanding comprehensive health care and sports medicine services.
The Ochsner Medical Complex – Airline will be located at the corner of Airline Drive and Tom Benson Way, adjacent to the teams’ practice facility.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with an anticipated opening in late 2027. The two-story facility will span more than 46,000 square feet, featuring orthopedics and sports medicine care for professional and amateur athletes, along with pediatrics, women’s services, physical therapy, imaging, and lab services. Future expansion will include outpatient surgical capabilities and additional clinical services.
The project strengthens Ochsner’s ongoing collaboration with Dr. James Andrews and Andrews Medicine, building on the success of the Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute, established in 2022. The institute includes 16 fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, 13 primary care sports medicine physicians, and a network of more than 220 athletic trainers supporting athletes at over 160 schools and clubs.
Catalyst, a health-focused real estate development firm, is leading the project, with Corporate Realty, Inc. assisting in coordination with Jefferson Parish officials. Ochsner also plans to construct a $1 million detention pond on the site to improve drainage, benefitting both the complex and the surrounding LaSalle Tract.
“This is a world-class medical facility that will serve patients throughout the Gulf South region while directly supporting professional athletes from both teams,” said Gayle Benson, owner of the Saints and Pelicans. “The benefits will impact this area for generations to come.”
Jefferson Parish officials noted the project’s economic impact, projecting more than 60 permanent jobs and $134 million in regional economic activity over the next decade. Councilman Deano Bonano said the development transforms previously unused land into a driver of growth and opportunity.
Ochsner CEO Pete November emphasized the project’s focus on community health and wellness. “The facility will serve as a hub for comprehensive care, empowering athletes and residents alike to achieve optimal performance and overall well-being,” he said.
Dr. Andrews highlighted the center’s significance for sports medicine in Louisiana. “This new facility represents our shared commitment to world-class orthopedic care and injury prevention, right here in my home state,” he said.
