AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 1 Texas landed 10 players on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team, including five first-team picks, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Running back Quintrevion Wisner and offensive lineman were named to the first-team offense, and edge rusher Colin Simmons, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and defensive back Michael Taaffe earned first-team defense nods.
Wisner is the only running back in the SEC returning this year to have rushed for at least 1,000 yards last season, and Campbell is the lone returning starter from last year’s Longhorns offensive line. Hill and Taaffe were both All-American selections last year with Simmons claiming the Shaun Alexander freshman of the year award.
All three defensive players were named first-team preseason All-Americans by the Associated Press.
Defensive back Malik Muhammad and punter Jack Bouwmeester were named to the second team, and offensive lineman Trevor Goosby, linebacker Trey Moore and kickoff specialist Will Stone were third-team selections.
Texas A&M landed six players across the three teams, including running back Le’Veon Moss on the first team. Three offensive linemen — Ar’maj Reed-Adams, Trey Zuhn III and Chase Bisontis — made the second teamalong with defensive back Will Lee III. Linebacker Taurean York made the third team.
Louisiana State’s Garrett Nussmeier was named the first-team quarterback, followed by South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers on the second team. Florida’s DJ Lagway was the third team pick.
The selections were made by a vote of SEC coaches.
