HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i football team opens the 2025 season with a non-conference match-up against Stanford of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Saturday, Aug. 23 at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on CBS. The Rainbow Warriors will host the Cardinal for the second time in three seasons at Ching Complex and will look to avenge a 37-24 loss in 2023.

Bank of Hawai’i is the title sponsor for Saturday’s matinee between Hawai’i and Stanford which will be televised nationally on CBS.
- To create a big-time home atmosphere, all fans are encouraged to join the team by wearing white for the game.
- Tailgating lot opens at 9:30 am. Fans are invited to join the Warrior Walk, where the team will be dropped off on campus and walk through the tailgating and Pa’ina area around 11 am. Our pregame concert with Hawaii’s Finest will begin at noon with High Watah performing live.
- Cooling stations will be located inside of Ching Complex including one at the beach volleyball courts near the Diamond Head endzone. Bottled water will be offered at all concession stands. In addition, a rental sound system will be tested for the opener to enhance the overall fan experience.
- 1,000 white ti leaf towels will be distributed to the student section as they enter the game.
- Comedian and former Rainbow Warrior football player Tumua Tuinei will serve as the team’s official honorary team captain. Prior to kickoff, Tuinei will deliver the game ball and stand with the team captains at midfield for the coin toss.
- Singing the national anthem and Hawai’i Pono’i will be Angela Morales.
- Former Rainbow Warrior All-American Chad Owens will be welcomed back to campus as our legend of the game. Owens will be honored for recently being inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor, the Hawai’i Sports Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame.
- For her amazing work in the community, UH will recognize Aunty Blanche McMillan. McMillan founded Hui Mahi’ai ‘Āina (HMA), a homeless community program that provides village-style housing, essential facilities, and long-term support for those facing hard times in Hawai’i.
- Before the team introduction, two teams from NFL Flag Hawai’i will run out of the home team tunnel, and will play an exhibition for the home crowd at halftime.

GAME STORYLINES
- UH will open the season against an Autonomous Four opponent for the fourth time in the last five seasons and fifth time since 2019.
- UH has a 4-4 all-time record in Week 0 including a 2-1 mark at home.
- UH will host a Week 0 game for the third time under head coach Timmy Chang (2022 vs. Vanderbilt, L, 10-63; 2024 vs. Delaware State, W, 35-14).
- Hawai’i is 64-39-5 (.616) all-time in season openers, including a 31-30-1 mark against collegiate opponents and a 22-20-1 record at home.
- UH’s last wins over a Power Conference team were against the then-Pac-12’s Arizona and Oregon State in back-to-back weeks to open the 2019 season.
- UH and Stanford last met in Honolulu in Week 1 of the 2023 season (Sept. 1) with the Cardinal winning 37-24.
- Stanford leads the series, 4-0, with all four games played in Honolulu. The teams are scheduled to meet again in 2026 and 2030, both in Stanford, Calif.
- In the Division I era, the August 23 opening date marks the program’s earliest start, topping the August 24 date in 2019 and 2024. UH’s all-time record in the month of August is 8-11.
- The game marks UH’s first-ever against an ACC opponent. Hawai’i previously played five current ACC teams prior to their ACC membership with a 7-9 all-time record against those teams (0-1 vs. Boston College; 2-3 vs. California; 1-0 vs. Pittsburgh; 4-1 vs. SMU; 0-4 vs. Stanford).
- Head coach Timmy Chang begins his fourth season at his alma mater, where he has compiled an 13-25 career mark and 8-15 in Mountain West play.
- Chang has a 0-6 record against Autonomous Four conference teams.
- WR Jackson Harris played in nine games over two seasons at Stanford before transferring to UH. Harris redshirted in 2023 and played in six games last season. DL Aiden McComber’s brother is Stanford freshman LB Landon McComber.
- This season marks the fifth that Hawai’i will play its home games at the temporary, on-campus Clarence T.C. Ching Complex. UH has a 15-12 all-time record at Ching Complex. The future home of the Rainbow Warriors, the new Aloha Stadium, is projected to open in 2029.
