NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A new development tonight, bloodhounds have been deployed in the search for Bryan Vasquez, a missing child with developmental disabilities.
“I want my child. He is my life,’ said Vasquez’s mom.
Law enforcement continues to search in New Orleans East for Vasquez.
The 12-year-old, who suffers from a developmental disability and is non-verbal, was last seen on a ring camera Thursday morning attempting to open a neighbor’s door.
“We want to be able to bring this young man home to his family and do whatever we can to give that family some sense of closure and a resolution,” said Assistant to the Commissioner, Office of Motor Vehicles, Austin Badon.
Though the NOPD has scaled down its investigation, the governor has offered bloodhounds from Angola to help locate Vasquez.
“We have this article of clothing that has a specific scent that they can key in on. From what I’m told, he’ll virtually drink water from anywhere if he’s thirsty. We’re focusing on this area, and we’re, you know, looking in the woods where he may be,” said Badon.
As the bloodhounds attempted to locate Vasquez’s scent, others checked the water close to where he lives.
“We have the Sewerage and Water Board, who are here, and they are literally taking out the weeds on the bayou. And hopefully we can snag something and, you know, bring Brian home if he’s in that water,” said Badon.
Vasquez’s mother is remaining hopeful that her son will be found alive. She pleads for anyone who may have her son to turn him in to the authorities.
“If someone has him, and you kept him, and you are worried. My son doesn’t speak. He won’t be able to say who you are. Just return them safely,” said Bryan’s mom.
Badon says the clock is ticking to find Vasquez alive, especially because the 12-year-old has not taken his seizure medication in days. But he says they are all praying for the best possible outcome.
Authorities continue to ask nearby residents to check exterior home cameras, search sheds and outdoor areas and report any possible sightings.
