ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It wasn’t the result New Mexico United was hoping for, but it was the best regular season result for the club since June.
On Saturday night the black and yellow returned home for the first time since July 12. Matched up against Las Vegas Lights FC, NMU ended the night with a 2-2 draw.
Recently acquired forward Val Noel, who was traded from Las Vegas, made a quick splash with a goal in the fifth minute. Anthony Herbert, who United sent to Vegas in the trade, responded with the equalizer seven minutes later off of a corner.
Talen Maples picked up a red card in the 66′. Las Vegas scored eight minutes later with United playing down a man.
Thomas Amang scored the final goal of the match in the 87th.
“In a weird way I hope this is a night that we can move forward,” said United head coach Dennis Sanchez. “Even though it wasn’t a win, I think they were fully capable of getting a win if we play our game from the first whistle. Hopefully you come out of this one with a level of resilience that this can push us forward in the right direction.”
With the win, NMU earned a point in the USL standings for the first time since June 21.
Up next, the club travels to USL leading Louisville City next Saturday.
