Tyson Fury is full of praise for Moses Itauma after his staggering quickfire demolition of Dillian Whyte.
Itauma was looking to cement his status as boxing’s biggest rising superstar in his hardest test yet against Whyte in Saudi Arabia.
The 20-year-old has faced questions over whether he could reach the heights of Fury and Anthony Joshua, as well as if it was a step too far too soon.
But the young prodigy proved exactly why he belongs on the world stage, dispatching of veteran Whyte in just 119 seconds of the opening round.
It was a statement which reverberated around the boxing world, and left pundits and experts excited yet again.
Itauma has faced comparisons to heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, and has been endorsed by Fury and Joshua in the past.
But the ‘Gypsy King’ doubled down on his glowing reviews of the Chatham native on social media.
He responded on social media with the caption: “There he is, the future of boxing.
“I’ve been saying it for years.”
Fury has sparred Itauma in preparation for his two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.
And he suggested he would never fight the devastating young talent, who has left a trail of destruction so far in his professional career.
The former champion himself took out Whyte in the fourth round of their 2022 encounter, so is well qualified to make the judgement.
Itauma is unlikely to face Fury given their mutual respect, but is being beckoned into a potential world title shot in the coming months.
What does the future of Moses Itauma look like in boxing?
Itauma is truly destined for the pinnacle of the sport, and it appears he is just fights from a shot at world glory.
He is already ranked as the leading contender with the WBO behind interim champion Joseph Parker.
A potential showdown with Parker is being touted, particularly given the New Zealander was in the crowd in Riyadh.
Many are even tipping Itauma to go right to the very top in his next fight and take on undisputed champion Usyk immediately.
Given his star status has just taken a massive boost, a huge showdown with Usyk would now sell to the global masses.
And his trainer Ben Davison was seriously impressed with his performance, but still wants Itauma to get further rounds under his belt.
He told talkSPORT immediately after the bout: “Yeah look, pros it was a fantastic event headlining against a British boxing legend.
“But the con is we are still chasing rounds. It is very hard for any heavyweight to get to twelve rounds with him.
“It’s a tough task to bank rounds. I’ve seen him start to walk people down and beat them up.
“But to get to the second half while shipping punishment from Moses, it’s tough.
“The team will have a discussion as to what is next. There is this 30 day extension for Usyk to see what happens there.
“We will look there, but maybe we could go with someone else next to bank some rounds.”
