The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central arrested James Clark, 49, of Damariscotta on Friday evening in connection with the death of Levern Kelley of Waldoboro.
According to a statement from the Maine State Police, Clark was arrested at the Red Carpet Inn in South Daytona, Florida, and was charged with Murder.
A warrant was issued for Clark’s arrest on Friday morning following several days of investigation into the death of Kelley. Clark fled the area and was located in Florida with the assistance of the MIAC in Maine and Volusia County, Florida.
Clark was arrested without incident and is awaiting extradition to Maine.
On the morning of Aug. 9, the Waldoboro Police Department received a 911 call from a person checking on Levern Kelley, a woman residing on Genthner Road.
Waldoboro police officers and Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home and found the body of 53 year-old Kelley. Following an autopsy on Aug. 10 at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
As of Thursday afternoon, police had revealed few details about what happened to Kelley.
On a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Kelley’s “final wishes,” Kelley’s daughter Amanda Gustafson wrote that someone had called 911 after her mother hadn’t shown up for work.
“There was foul play involved, and my mom was murdered, I’m still in disbelief,” Gustafson wrote. “We all are.”
