Karrion Kross has been told what to negotiate with WWE if he returns to the company following the expiration of his contract.
The 40-year-old seemed to confirm his time with the company was over with a post on his X account on August 11. Many had initially felt that his contractual situation was a work, but there is now a strong feeling among fans and even some employees that he is gone.
Matt Morgan Tells Karrion Kross To Bring Back ‘Killer’ Old Gimmick
Kross’ popularity had grown throughout the year, and chants of “We Want Kross” were heard on every episode of Monday night RAW. He was handed three PLE matches but failed to defeat arch-rival Sami Zayn, much to the frustration of many fans.
The former NXT Champion’s final appearance looks to have been his loss to Zayn at SummerSlam on August 2. He hasn’t appeared on any of the following episodes of RAW and has released a two-part documentary about his contract expiring, shedding light on WWE’s assessment of the situation.
The title of said documentary is ‘The Killer’, a nod to his old character ‘Killer Kross’, used in TNA, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and Major League Wrestling before arriving in WWE in February 2020. He underwent a name change, taking on the ‘Karrion Kross’ gimmick.
Matt Morgan has shared his thoughts on Kross’ situation, advising him to revive the ‘Killer’ gimmick, which was a major success. He said on Podcast Heat Wrestling:
“If I’m him, I’m shaving my head, and I’m telling WWE to keep my name on the alumni page as Karrion Kross and I come back as Killer Kross. We bring it back to the most successful part of my career when people were able to get behind my character.”
Morgan added that Kross should push for more of a featured role:
“Give me my whole damn entrance this time, don’t shorten it, don’t cheapen it. Don’t make me have to watch Superstars (WWE Main Event) or whatever show it is they stick him on sometimes. Put him on Monday Night RAW in a featured role and if he fails then fine, but he ain’t gonna fail, this kid works way too hard.”
WWE have been prepared to use expiring contracts as part of storylines when they were forced to bring R-Truth back. Their decision to allow his previous deal to expire led to widespread criticism because of his years of service, but he quickly returned with Triple H, claiming it was “all part of the show”.
That situation has fans speculating that Kross and Scarlett, his partner, aren’t legitimately gone and will return in some form. They were one of the most popular acts when their contracts expired, and have continued to gain support.
Who is Killer Kross?
The Killer Kross character debuted in the mid-2010s, and it was a gimmick that appealed because it felt unique. He was more than just a competitor with a dangerous side that extended further than the squared circle.
It was during Kross’ time in Lucha Underground when the Killer gimmick was perhaps at its best, leading a faction when he was known as ‘The White Rabbit’. There were similarities between his cryptic promos and those of Bray Wyatt during the latter’s return to WWE, which is why many envisioned they’d work together at some point.
Kross took on a more psychopathic demeanour during his run in TNA (then known as IMPACT Wrestling). He was a monster heel with a short fuse and his bald head allowed him to lean into the menacing side of the character.
Kross’ run in NXT saw him showcase all of these personalities through clever, mind-provoking promos and wins that often saw him squash his opponents. This is how he should have been booked on the main roster, a powerhouse whose maniacal ways cause carnage in and out of the ring.
