(KRON) — A 4-year-old boy was killed and a 6-year-old girl was injured when a car swerved over a sidewalk and crashed into a Burlingame poke restaurant. On Monday, officials identified the young boy as Ayden Everest Fang of Burlingame.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Friday at Truffle Poke Bar. Police said a 19-year-old San Mateo woman was driving on Donnelly Avenue when her car ran over the children and smashed into the restaurant. Investigators said the woman’s car was hit by an electric bicycle just before Ayden and the girl were struck by the car on a sidewalk.
“The vehicle was entering the roadway of Donnelly Avenue from the driveway of (City) Parking Lot D when it was struck by an eastbound e-bike. The vehicle then accelerated forward across Donnelly Avenue, onto the north sidewalk, and into the Truffle Bar Restaurant,” the Burlingame Police Department wrote.
“A 6-year-old female juvenile was transported to Stanford Hospital for treatment. A 4-year-old male juvenile sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” BPD wrote.
Police said the teenaged driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the collision, according to BPD.
Community members created a memorial with candy, flowers, and candles at the restaurant’s entrance.
