Trader Joe’s will open its first New Orleans location on Aug. 14, bringing 80 new jobs and a national grocery brand to the city’s Tulane Avenue corridor.
The 9,683-square-foot store, located at 2501 Tulane Ave. across from the VA hospital, will be the third Trader Joe’s in Louisiana. Doors open at 9 a.m. following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Store Captain Rachelle Haddad-Martinez and her crew.
Company officials said the new store reflects Trader Joe’s emphasis on hiring locally, with most of its staff drawn from nearby neighborhoods. Additional team members will transfer from other Louisiana locations. Trader Joe’s has an existing store in Metairie, located at 2949 Veterans Blvd.
The Feil Organization, which owns the property, touted the project as part of a broader effort to revitalize Tulane Avenue.
“Trader Joe’s brings new energy, jobs, and opportunity to New Orleans,” said Colette Wharton, the firm’s regional director and asset manager.
Through its Neighborhood Shares Program, Trader Joe’s will donate all unsold but still-edible products to local nonprofits seven days a week. The company operates more than 585 stores in 42 states and Washington, D.C., offering both specialty products and household staples.
Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
