WICHITA, Kan. – Longtime Wichita State women’s tennis head coach Colin Foster has accepted the Director of Tennis position at Wichita Country Club. He will serve as the interim head coach at Wichita State until a successor is identified through an immediate national search.
“Shocker Athletics, and our women’s tennis program, have been blessed with Colin’s exceptional leadership for 16 years,” said Wichita State Director of Athletics Kevin Saal. “While Colin’s competitive contributions to our program are impressive and unprecedented, his character, integrity, care for our student-athletes and love of Shocker Athletics are indelible marks he’ll leave on our program. While we are saddened to see him depart Wichita State, we are excited for him, Kewa and his family as they pursue their next endeavor, remaining strong and impactful fixtures in our Wichita community.”
Foster is Wichita State’s all-time wins leader with a record of 251-150 and has guided the Shockers to nine NCAA tournament appearances and eight conference tournament titles in 16 seasons as head coach (2009-25).
“I want to thank Wichita State University for giving a 24-year old coach the opportunity to lead this program back in 2009,” Foster said. “I worked hard to build and sustain a competitive program and be an impactful leader and mentor. I have loved working for Shocker Athletics but am ready and excited for a new challenge and chapter, one that will keep our family in Wichita and around this incredible community. I want to thank the players for trusting me with their college athletics’ experience, I took great pride and responsibility in trying to make that experience a positive one. And lastly, to thank those who have coached with me, especially my wife Kewa who has been by my side professionally and personally throughout this journey. The people are what make this place special, and I will be excited to continue following Shocker Athletics from just down the road.”
Foster coached 45 singles players and 11 doubles tandems to all-conference honors. Six Shockers have earned conference player of the year status, with three-time honoree Lutfiana Budiharto (2010-12) followed by Julia Schiller (2014), Gabriela Porubin (2016), and Giulia Guidetti (2017).
Under Foster’s watch, four singles players and two doubles tandems have earned bids to the NCAA Individual Championships. Xin Tong Wang became the fourth Shocker to qualify for NCAA Individuals in 2024 by reaching the singles final of the Central Region Championships.
