AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The 20th annual Dolly Day-Lazarou Open was held on Friday in Amsterdam, and 140 golfers hit the green in support of the United Way of the Greater Capital Region.
The outing brought together golfers for a day of fun and friendly competition to raise money for the United Way’s initiatives. It’s held in honor of Costa and Aristotle “Dolly” Lazarou, both WWII Navy veterans.
Chris Sherlock, the founder of Dolly Day, said the annual event is the perfect way to give back to the local community.
“I feel that it is very important to give back to our community of Amsterdam,” she said. “This has always been my home, and the people that come to this golf tournament feel the same.”
“The best part about this job is being in these close-knit communities,” United Way of the Greater Capital Region Pres. and CEO Peter Gannon said. “And this family has been so gracious welcoming our organization in to be the recipients of the funds of this outing.
Thanks to the support of golfers and sponsors of the outing, $20,000 was raised for the United Way of the Greater Capital Region. The money stays in Montgomery County and benefits programs like the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
