The five-month-long storyline involving the serious Ron Killings persona and his one-sided feud with John Cena appears to be over. On the August 8 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, the fan-favorite R-Truth character re-emerged and reconciled with his long-time hero, John Cena, in a humorous backstage segment.
A Mirrored Reconciliation
The segment saw John Cena walking backstage when he was approached by R-Truth. The two men then engaged in a classic mirror routine, mimicking each other’s movements. Truth then broke the silence and indicated that since Cena was back to his old self, he was as well. The two then shared a hug, signaling an end to the animosity that had defined their interactions for months.
Following the hug, Cena expressed that he had been worried about Truth’s behavior over the past five months. He was being sarcastic, obviously. He referenced the major changes in his character, noting that Truth had changed his hair, been mean to people, and made a child in Brussels cry. Cena also jokingly claimed that Truth wanted to ruin wrestling and then asked if he genuinely thought that was a workable plan.
“Good to Have You Back”
The segment concluded with Cena telling his old friend it was good to have him back before walking away. This left a comically confused R-Truth to ponder what had just happened. The lighthearted and fun segment signals a return to the classic R-Truth character that has been a fan favorite for over a decade.
A Turbulent Five Months
This reconciliation brings to a close a unique and often bizarre storyline. After John Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber in March, R-Truth’s character underwent a dramatic shift. He adopted the more serious Ron Killings persona, cut off his signature dreadlocks, and began a rivalry with Cena. Now, with Cena abandoning his heel persona, it appears the fun-loving R-Truth is officially back as well.
It is expected that John Cena will now move into a major feud with the returning Brock Lesnar after he faces Logan Paul at Clash in Paris. At this point, there it’s unclear what Truth will do next on WWE TV. Click here for complete WWE SmackDown results.
