NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – It’s been a busy week in the Atlantic basin in terms of potential tropical development and we now have one more area to keep an eye on.
According to the National Hurricane Center, there’s a tropical wave off the western coast of Africa that’s producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The NHC says that “some slow development of this system is possible next week while the system moves west-northwestward at 15 to 20-mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.”
The chance to see formation for this area is 0% for the next 48-hours and 20% over the next 7-days.
As for the other two spots…
The tropical wave out in the central tropical Atlantic is seeing an increase in shower activity as it travels northwestward.
The National Hurricane Center says, “Development of this system appears unlikely during the next day or two due to surrounding dry air, but environmental conditions are forecast to become more conducive in a few days.”
The NHC predicts a tropical depression could form by the early to middle part of next week.
The chance for formation here continues to be 0% for the next 48-hours and 40% over the coming 7-days.
As for the area that we’ve been watching off the coast of North Carolina, its now described as “a large area of disorganized shower activity associated with a non-tropical low pressure system.”
The NHC forecasts that it will merge with a front and move into cooler waters through the weekend which will end any chances of formation.
That being said, its chances for formation have been downgraded to 0% for both the next 48-hours and 7-days.
