Springfield, Mo. – On Aug. 2, 2025, the Springfield Police Department conducted a four-hour “Move Over or Get Pulled Over” enforcement on Kansas Expressway between Sunshine Street and Mt. Vernon Street to educate drivers about Missouri’s Move Over Law.
During the enforcement period, 20 vehicles were stopped. Officers issued 10 citations for traffic violations. Additionally, one driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
“When drivers fail to move over for emergency vehicles, they put lives at risk including their own,” Lt. Steve Schwind said. Schwind is the commander of the department’s Traffic Unit. “The enforcement effort is about more than just citations. It’s about making sure everyone gets safely home. When you see emergency lights activated on the shoulders of the roadway, move over and slow down.”
