New Movies Streaming
‘Barbarian‘ (2022)
When Tess (Georgina Campbell) arrives at the rental home she booked in Detroit, Keith (Bill Skarsgård) is already there. A mistaken case of double-booking, or something much more sinister? You may think you have a general idea of where “Barbarian” is going after watching the trailer. Trust us, you don’t — and the less you know going in, the greater a viewing experience you’ll have.
How to watch: “Barbarian” is streaming on Netflix.
‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’ (2016)
If you enjoyed watching the legacy sequel to “The Naked Gun,” check out director Akiva Shaffer’s mockumentary “Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping,” one of the more underrated comedies of the past decade. Fellow “SNL” alum and Lonely Island member Andy Samberg plays the Bieber-esque star Conner4Real, whose solipsism leaves him ill-prepared for the moment when his new album flops and his tour mate (Chris Redd) leaves him in the dust. If you were a fan of Samberg’s self-described “fake rap s***” on “SNL,” you’ll love Conner4Real’s “Humble,” “Equal Rights,” and “Finest Girl (Bin Laden Song).” Like the best Lonely Island joints, each track is satirical, sophomoric, and undeniably catchy.

New TV Shows Streaming
‘King of the Hill’
Unlike other reboots of legacy shows cashing in with cheap nostalgia, Mike Judge’s animated comedy offers a refreshingly funny look at an evolved Hill family, particularly an adult Bobby (Pamela Adlon), who still finds ways to confuse and frustrate his parents Hank (Judge) and Peggy (Kathy Najimy).

‘Platonic‘
The secret sauce that made “Neighbors” and “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” a success was the undeniable comic chemistry of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. That chemistry (albeit in platonic form) is again on display in this Apple TV comedy about two friends who lift each other up and indulge (or enable) each other’s worst impulses.

‘Wednesday’
The title of this column uses the compound adjective “must-watch,” but I’d argue Season 2 of this Addams Family brand extension is more of a “could-watch” or a “watch to keep up, in case it eventually returns to form.” Maybe I’m in the minority, but it feels like Tim Burton’s reimagination of Charles Addams’ creepy, spooky, and altogether ooky family has already overextended itself. The second season — or at least the first half of it, since Netflix has only released four episodes – is bursting at the seams, shoehorning in side plots for all of the family members while giving Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) another mystery to solve.
