This stretch of hot weather will continue into this upcoming weekend. Isolated afternoon storms will be possible through the weekend as well, but will bring very little rainfall.
Once again it was another very hot day across New Mexico. A few record high temperatures were broken or tied today. Around the Albuquerque Metro, temperatures hovered around 100°, with triple-digit heat across southern New Mexico, and temperatures into the mid 90s into southern Colorado. A few spotty showers and storms have again developed today in western, northern, and central New Mexico with very little of this rain making it to the ground. These storms have mostly ended tonight. Low temperatures tonight will be cool and comfortable in western and northern New Mexico, but the rest of the state will stay warm.
Another round of record and near-record heat is on the way Friday afternoon, but this should hopefully be the last day of it as temperatures will start cooling off only slightly this weekend. Spotty showers and storms will return again Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons, but very little of the rain will make it to the ground. These storms could bring very gusty winds and a wildfire threat due to lightning.
Next week, temperatures will cool off a few more degrees with a weak cold front that will bring higher moisture into the state. That will cause an uptick in storm chances and wetting rainfall early next week. High pressure builds back over the state again around the middle of next week bringing back hotter temperatures. However, more monsoon moisture will get drawn up into the state, increasing rain chances late next week again.
