Some of the world’s best golfers will tee it up in Chicago’s suburbs as LIV Golf arrives for its annual tournament in the area.
Bolingbrook Golf Club will play host to 14 major winners, including 2024 US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau, 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm and 2023 PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka.
But how do LIV Golf tournaments work? Who else is participating in the event? And what do you need to know about the course? Here’s what you need to know this week.
How do LIV Golf events work?
There are a couple of key differences between LIV Golf and other professional golf tours, including the length of the tournament, as LIV events are 54 holes, not 72.
What’s more, instead of having tee times staggered throughout the day, LIV events have shotgun starts for each event, with all 54 golfers in the field teeing off at the same time, providing excitement as soon as the event begins.
Finally, there are two different titles at stake in each event. The first is naturally an individual stroke play event, while the second involves a team component. LIV is made up of 13 teams, with four members on each team. There are also two wild card players in the field each week, making up the 54-player field.
Who is participating in the Bolingbrook event?
Bryson DeChambeau will be in the first group to tee off on Friday, along with Cameron Smith and Tyrrell Hatton.
Rahm will be in the second group off the first hole, with Bubba Watson and Joaquin Niemann in his group.
Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Lee Westwood, and Dustin Johnson are all among the players participating in this week’s event.
Where is the event taking place?
For the second year in a row, Bolingbrook Golf Club will play host to the event, with the course operating under a three-year contract with the league.
The course, open to the public, will play as a par-71 and can max out at just over 7,200 yards for the event, according to LIV officials.
This year, the 12th hole was lengthened from a 494-yard par-4 to a 621-yard par-5 for the tournament. Several other changes were also made with the aim of challenging players to make precise tee shots around the undulating course.
Who won last year’s event in Bolingbrook?
Rahm, who has a pair of top-five finishes in his last two events, captured the title at last year’s event at the club, besting Niemann and Garcia by three shots.
Crushers GC captured the team title at Bolingbrook, edging out Legion XIII by just one stroke after three days of play.
Who is currently leading in the standings?
Niemann is currently in the lead in the season-long points race, ahead of Rahm and DeChambeau.
Legion XIII, led by Rahm, is leading the team points race, ahead of DeChambeau’s Crushers GC and Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC.
When does the tournament start?
According to LIV, the tournament will get underway Friday with a shotgun start at 11:05 a.m.
The second round will get underway at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, with legendary pop-punk band Good Charlotte performing after the round.
The final round will get underway at 9:05 a.m. Sunday.
Are tickets still available?
Three-day passes are still available starting at $115.50, while daily passes are available for as low as $39, according to LIV officials.
