United Airlines flights at Denver International Airport and other major American airports were grounded Wednesday night because of a “technology issue,” airlines officials said.
Flights departing DIA for Newark International Airport in New Jersey, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Chicago O’Hare International Airport and San Francisco International Airport were on a ground stop for several hours, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
As of 8:15 p.m, United flights to Houston and Chicago were still on a ground stop in Denver, the FAA reported.
“Due to a technology issue, we are holding United mainline flights at their departure airports,” United officials said in a statement.
“We expect additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue. Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations,” the statement continued.
There were 275 delays and 12 canceled United flights at DIA as of 8:15 p.m., according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.
