CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A Houston mother is under arrest after leading police on a 57-mile chase with two young children and a dog in the car.
Khariciea Jefferson, 25, was wanted for stabbing her 29-year-old boyfriend at her northeast Houston apartment in the 5400 block of Minden on Sunday afternoon.
Investigators say she used a kitchen knife to stab him in the stomach and hand before attempting to cut him with a pair of scissors.
After loading her 2-year-old and 4-year-old daughters from a previous relationship into her car, police say she ran over the man’s leg.
Officers with the Houston Police Department spotted Jefferson on Lockwood around 1:30 p.m. and gave chase.
She eventually ended up on the East Freeway, reaching speeds of up to 140 miles per hour.
At one point, prosecutors say Jefferson hit a marked HPD car while trying to exit the freeway.
Officers say they could see children standing up in the back of Jefferson’s car.
The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and Texas DPS joined the pursuit after Jefferson crossed county lines.
The chase concluded on I-10 near Winnie, and Jefferson was taken into custody. Both children in the vehicle were reported to be unharmed and recovered safely.
Jefferson was charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of endangering a child.
The victim’s sister said he’d only been dating Jefferson for two months.
