WWE SummerSlam 2025 Night 2 opened with Naomi defending her WWE Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY. The intense Triple Threat Match ended with Naomi retaining the title by being pretty sneaky. After Ripley hit IYO SKY with a Riptide, Naomi was quick to roll up Ripley from behind and hold onto her tights to secure the pinfall. Her win has made WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H take notice of how the longtime WWE Superstar is progressing in the business.
What Did Triple H Say About Naomi?
While talking on the SummerSlam post-show on Sunday, the CCO was impressed with Naomi, feeling she has improved her career, and it could be with her feud with Jade Cargill. Naomi has been with the company on and off since her debut in January 2012 alongside former WWE Superstars Cameron and Brodus Clay.
“And I think Naomi, to me, she might be one of those people where even though she’s been here for a long time, all of a sudden, most improved, where she has just come out of her shell, and for whatever reason, I don’t know if the stuff with Jade (Cargill), that whole situation but something motivated her to take it to another level and she is, and what a moment tonight with her dad.” (H/T Fightful)
Naomi has been the WWE Women’s World Champion for less than a month. She cashed in her Money in the Bank suitcase mid-way through then-champion IYO SKY vs. Rhea Ripley at the WWE Evolution PLE on July 13. Earlier that day, Naomi defeated rival Jade Cargill in a No Holds Barred Match.
A Look Back At Naomi’s WWE Women’s World Title Reigns
It’s safe to admit that Naomi’s career has had its ups and quite a few downs. To say that she has been overlooked most of her career would be true. Her current heel turn has finally seemed to turn things around for her, and hopefully, her third WWE Women’s World Title reign will go better than the last two.
Before winning at Evolution, Naomi’s last WWE Women’s World Title reign, which was her second, began in April 2017, when she defeated then-champion Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, former WWE Superstar Carmella, and Mickie James at WrestleMania 33. She would hold onto the title until, ironically, SummerSlam of that year, after Natalya defeated her. As per Cagematch, she defended the title a total of 7 times on SmackDown and WWE PLEs. Her opponent in most of them was former WWE Superstar Lana.
Months before WrestleMania 33, in February 2017, Naomi won her first singles title — the WWE Women’s Championship — after defeating Alexa Bliss at the 2017 WWE Elimination Chamber. It was a moment that many of her fans were waiting for. Sadly, though, her first title reign wouldn’t last long. She would have to relinquish the title less than ten days later, due to a knee injury. Now, with her hilarious and brutal social media game and smart moves in the ring, Naomi is finally the star of the company.
