BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The director of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library has died at 51, the library said in a statement.
John Spears, who was appointed library director in April 2022, died following a battle with cancer. He has spoken and published articles for the Western New York Library Resources Council, New York Library Association, American Library Association, and more.
With over 25 years of library management experience across multiple states, Spears advocated for access to free, equal, and equitable education through library resources.
He is survived by his partner, Brian Dimit, his family and his friends. A celebration of life has yet to be scheduled.
