ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque restaurant was included in the Food Network’s list of “Classic Diners You Don’t Want To Miss, in All 50 States.”
Lindy’s Diner, located on the corner of Central and Fifth, is considered to be one of the longest-running restaurants in the Duke City, and originally opened as Coney Island Cafe back in 1929.
Food Network staff highlighted the diner’s signature dishes, such as the Cowboy Breakfast—a chicken fried steak smothered in red or green chile, cheese, accompanied by eggs, beans, hash browns, and a tortilla—and the restaurant’s Green Chile Cheeseburger—a New Mexican staple that features green chile added on top of a regular cheeseburger.
Also, highlighted by the Food Network was Lindy’s Spartacus Burger—a patty topped with feta cheese, gyro meat, and tzatziki sauce—which is said to be a nod to the owner’s Greek roots.
The Route 66 diner was also praised for being open to everyone, including furry friends, and for being a filming location for various movies and television productions.
KRQE News 13 caught up with the diner’s owners, Steve and Dawn Vatoseow, in May 2025. See our report here.
