New Yorkers can breathe a sigh of relief with a break expected in the sweltering conditions the metro area has endured over the past few days.
Drier air and lower temperatures are resulting in cooler weather Friday, with seasonable highs in the mid- to upper-80s.
John Murray, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said humidity levels will tick up Saturday and Sunday, but they won’t be quite as muggy as earlier this week.
“You will have more of a heat-index factor for Sunday,” when elevated dew points could push real-feel temperatures into the low- to mid-90s, he said.
There will be chances of showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the region over the weekend, Murray said. They’ll bring a marginal risk for flooding in some areas, though nothing like Monday’s powerful storms.
A cold front is expected to pass through late Sunday, and highs Monday will be in the lower 80s. No rain is currently predicted for the start of next week, according to the National Weather Service.
