PKK fighters are set to begin disarming at a ceremony in Iraqi Kurdistan on Friday in a move to end long-term conflict in the region that has cost more than 40,000 lives. Imprisoned PKK leader, Abdullah Ocalan, said in May that the group would end its armed struggle with Turkey and instead use democratic means to defend the rights of the Kurdish minority.
