India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy took two wickets in his first over on Day 1 of the third Test against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Thursday, July 10. He bowled 14 overs and got the ball to move both ways to trouble the England batters. While the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep tried hard without much luck with the new ball, Reddy dismissed the England openers in the same over.
After the end of play on Day 1, Nitish revealed that he had asked his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins, for some advice during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on how to bowl in English conditions. The Australian captain urged him to keep track of the weather and believe in his own abilities.
“After the Australia tour, I felt like I have to improve my bowling. I just asked Pat what’s the difference between Australia and England since this is my first tour. He said that it’s not going to be like a different change but you watch about the weather conditions and just play your game,” said Reddy at the post-match press conference after England finished at 251/4.
Reddy was asked whether he had one eye on getting his name on the prestigious Lord’s honour board by bagging a five-for on Day 2. The Hyderabad all-rounder answered in the affirmative, saying that he would be ecstatic if he registers the feat.
“Since I got some bit of swing both ways and I just want to be consistent over all areas. I have been doing a lot of hard work ,,, I have to believe in myself. I would be so happy if I got named on the board,” Reddy noted.
We are playing against top-class batsmen as well: Nitish Kumar Reddy
The 22-year-old mentioned how seasoned campaigners Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are trying to help him hone his skills as a fast bowler.
“They always speak about being consistent. It isn’t just about bowling those good balls. We are playing against top-class batsmen as well. It’s not like if you bowl an in-swinger or an out-swinger, you are getting a wicket. So we just keep simple plans,” he said.
England finished Day 1 at 251/4 in 83 overs. Joe Root will resume his innings from 99 on Friday, while Ben Stokes has taken himself to Stumps, scoring a watchful 39*. They will look to keep the Indian pacers at bay in the opening hour before stepping on the accelerator.
