ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The United States Environmental Protection Agency is prioritizing the hazardous waste cleanup at a defunct dry cleaner in Albuquerque. The agency said the Carlisle Village Cleaners, which was in business near Carlisle Blvd. and Simms Ave. from 1953 to 1975, used a chemical that seeped into the soil and gave off dangerous vapors.
In 2022, state and federal environmental experts identified 21 residential and commercial properties in need of a system to remove the vapors. The EPA has now added the area to its superfund national priorities list, putting it among the country’s most serious hazardous waste sites.
