DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Rockies are back at Coors Field on Friday for the first home game of the season, and even though it’s during one of the warmest times of the day, it won’t feel like it.
The baseball season usually kicks off at the start of April, which means Denver is either close to spring or hanging onto winter. For the start of this season, winter weather is here to stay.
The Pinpoint Weather team is tracking temperatures in the low 40s by the first pitch at 2:10 p.m. Then, temperatures will slowly drop to 38 degrees by the end of the game.

Along with the cold, snow is possible during or after the game, making it potentially one of the coldest home openers in franchise history.
Rockies’ home opener could be one of the coldest
In the past, Rockies home openers have reached anywhere from 70 to 80 degrees at first pitch, according to National Weather Service records. However, the Rockies have also had to brace for the cold, with other games dipping below freezing with snow.
If temperatures stay around 40 degrees during the game, it will be one of the coldest home openers in history. The coldest games range from 24 to 46 degrees at first pitch.

While it will be cold, it won’t be the coldest. During the 2018 home opener, it only reached 24 degrees at first pitch. The 2018 game beat a Rockies record held since 2004 when the team played in 37-degree weather.
The Pinpoint Weather team also expects some rain, and possibly snow, to fall during the game.
If the Rockies have snow on the field, it will go down in franchise history as one of the few snowy home opener games. NWS records show the only time it snowed during a home opener was the 1995 game. Since then, it hasn’t snowed since — or at least, not yet.
