HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Keep the umbrellas handy! We saw pretty widespread showers and storms this morning and scattered storms are expected into the afternoon as well. Some storms could be strong and an isolated severe storm cannot be ruled out. We should see activity die down after sunset.
What should we expect for Father’s Day?
It will basically be a repeat of Friday’s and Saturday’s weather! There will still be scattered downpours popping up by Sunday afternoon, and while chances they turn severe are low, any storm could pack heavy rain that floods streets, lightning that knocks out the power, small hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph. We have the rain chance again at 60%. Temperatures both days will start off in the mid 70s and warm into the low 90s before the showers and storms cool things down.
When can we expect some drier weather?
Right now we have a daily rain chance through late next week, but it’s 40% or less starting Monday. Every day should feature a muggy morning in the 70s and a hot afternoon in the mid 90s before scattered showers and storms pop up to cool things off in some Houston-area neighborhoods.
What’s happening in the tropics?
At this time, the Atlantic basin is filled with a Saharan dust cloud, limiting tropical development and bringing a slightly hazy sky to Southeast Texas. Meanwhile Delila is spinning off the Pacific coast of Mexico. For a thorough update and in-depth video on what’s happening in the tropics, head to our tropical update page.
