Three teenagers escaped from the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland on Friday.
The two 17-year-olds and one 14-year-old escaped the correctional facility at around 12:37 p.m., according to Maine Department of Corrections spokesperson Anthony Cantillo.
Details on how the teenagers may have escaped were not provided, but officials said the facility had been secured.
A search for the teens is underway, although information on their current suspected location was not provided.
Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call 911, and anyone who may come into contact with them is asked not to engage with the teens.
Friday’s escape is the third escape from the youth detention center in just over a year. In July, a 14-year-old escaped the South Portland facility, and in July 2024, two boys climbed onto the prison’s roof and jumped off, then eluded authorities for several days.
