ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Three Albany Police Officers were injured in a crash and a 15-year-old was arrested for allegedly having a gun following an incident on Second Street in Albany on Thursday morning. The unnamed Watervliet teen was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Albany Police said they tried to stop a group of people on foot near the 200 block of Second Street when they all fled, resulting in a foot pursuit. The teen was taken into custody after the foot chase because officers said he had a loaded nine millimeter handgun.
Two units of the Albany Police Department were responding to assist the officers in the pursuit when they crashed at the intersection of Second Street and Lark Street, causing damage to two unattended, parked vehicles and a fire hydrant. The three officers involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.
The Watervliet teen will be arraigned in Albany County Family Court on Thursday.
