A 22-year-old man was killed while in a crosswalk by a driver who ran a red light and struck him before fleeing the scene, police said.
Just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the man was crossing the street on the 5400 block of South Kedzie in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood when he was struck by the driver of a gray vehicle, police said. The driver was traveling northbound when they disregarded a traffic signal and struck the 22-year-old as he was using the crosswalk.
The driver then fled the scene, police said.
The 22-year-old was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.
Surveillance video of the crash obtained by NBC Chicago shows the 22-year-old tried to step away from the vehicle to avoid getting hit before the driver swerved toward him, appearing to intentionally strike him.
No one is in custody and detectives are investigating the crash.
