CHICAGO — Three people were shot, the driver fatally, while traveling in a vehicle overnight in Englewood on the city’s South Side, according to Chicago police.
Police say the shooting happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 7200 block of South Green Street. The driver, a female whose age was not yet known by police, was shot in the back and taken to an area hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead.
Additionally, a 20-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and taken to an area hospital in serious condition and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the elbow and taken to an area hospital in good condition. They were both passengers in the vehicle.
The two shooting victims were unable to provide further details about the incident, according to police, and nobody is yet in custody.
A witness, however, described to WGN News what we heard.
“We were walking and out of nowhere you just heard like eight, 10 gunshots, just going off,” he said. “And then it stopped for a second, then you heard some more go off.”
Area One detectives are investigating.
