Temperatures in Burlington will be about 10-15 degrees warmer this week than average for mid-October, just in time for peak leaf peeping in the area.
High temperatures usually hover around 60 during this time in October, according to the National Weather Service. This week, highs will be in the low 70s.
Temperatures have been higher than normal in both September and October with nighttime temperatures not yet reaching below 40 degrees, according the weather service.
Nichole Hammond, a meteorologist at the weather service in Burlington, said the main impact of this is an extended growing season.
Temperature predictions for the next two weeks are also trending higher than average, Hammond said.
Hammond said that rain was expected to be a heavy factor for the weekend of Oct. 16-17, and there was slight chance of precipitation earlier in the week, Wednesday through Friday.
