Things seem to just happen whenever Marnus Labuschagne is around. This time, the young Australian batter was involved in a very strange dismissal on the opening day of the fifth and final Ashes 2021-22 Test at Hobart.

Labuschagne got out bowled down the leg-side after collapsing badly while attempting a flick shot. It seemed that the right-hand batter’s back leg got stuck on the crease as he tried to go through with his shot and he fell across on the turf.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 23rd over in the Australian first-innings. Marnus Labuschagne, batting on 44 at the time, was facing England’s lead quick Stuart Broad, who bowled a delivery down leg having sighted the batter move across the crease towards the off-side.

Marnus Labuschagne done in bowled after an unexpected collapse

The shot from Marnus Labuschagne was perfectly on, as he tried to flick this delivery from Broad across the on-side. However, he fell woefully short of correct execution of the stroke because of an unfortunate collapse on the turf.

Labuschagne’s back leg seems to have gotten stuck to the turf, which meant that when the batter looked to pivot across and went through with his stroke, he had zero balance. The young gun missed the ball completely and it crashed onto the middle and leg stumps.

Earlier in his innings, Marnus Labuschagne was rescued at the crease by a drop catch from England, as he went on to make an impressive 44 on a difficult green top wicket made curiously for Hobart’s first-ever Ashes Test match.

Labuschagne has been one of the stand-out Australian batters in the Ashes 2021-22, with 330 runs from his 8 innings at an average of 47.14. His series tally features three scores of fifty or more, including a fantastic hundred in the second Test in Adelaide.
