Tottenham are reportedly prepared to battle Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United for a striker who is shining in La Liga.
The north London side kept hold of Harry Kane this summer, despite his intention of leaving in search of trophies. Man City submitted a bid worth £100m for the England skipper.
It was swiftly rejected as Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy gave Kane a £160m price tag. City failed to return with an improved offer and the star had to admit defeat in his transfer search.
However, he could leave next summer if Tottenham fail to improve this season. That means club chiefs are keeping an eye on potential replacements across Europe.
Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is one prime example. Spurs and City are both pursuing his services. Vlahovic looks set to leave Fiorentina as he has rejected the offer of a new contract.
A new name has now cropped up on Spurs’ striker wish list. Sport Witness, citing reports in the Spanish press, claim that Raul de Tomas is being monitored.
He is a 27-year-old centre-forward currently lighting up the Spanish top flight for Espanyol. He has already managed six goals and two assists this season.
That includes four goals in each of his last four appearances. de Tomas has proven his ability to compete with the best as he has struck against both Real Madrid and Atletico.
The report states that Tottenham are ‘preparing’ an offer for 2022. The Spaniard could be brought in to replace Kane if City manage to land the 28-year-old.
However, they are not alone in the transfer hunt. Premier League rivals Leeds became a potential suitor earlier this month. They want de Tomas to challenge Patrick Bamford in attack as the Englishman continues to struggle in front of goal.
Sport Witness do not point out any transfer fee. Espanyol would clearly want a significant sum to part with one of their star players.
Tottenham return for Turkey international
Italian source Tuttomercatoweb report that Spurs are back in for Zeki Celik. The right-back shone last season as Lille won the French title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.
He failed to continue that form with Turkey at Euro 2020, but his stock remains high. Spurs director Fabio Paratici is keen to sign Celik next year. A deal would reportedly cost around €20m (£18.8m).
Fiorentina, Atletico and Inter are all keeping tabs on the defender. That means a Spurs capture is not a foregone conclusion.
Celik’s arrival in north London could spell the end for one Jose Mourinho signing. Matt Doherty arrived from Wolves last August but has struggled to impress.
He has featured for just seven minutes in the Premier League so far this term. A number of Prem suitors could be found given his previous success with Wolves.
