At around 5:30 p.m., a vehicle travelling south left its lane and collided with another vehicle. Four occupants, including one of the passengers in critical condition, were transported to hospital.

A second vehicle was travelling north and avoided a direct collision by veering right, according to Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. Only a rear-view mirror was affected by the impact and the person driving was not taken to hospital.

A third vehicle, which was driving behind, could not avoid the first car, according to information from the SQ. Luckily, the driver came away with minor injuries that were not life threatening.

According to Bilodeau, the collision occurred “on a slightly snow-covered road, but still very straight.”

An accident investigator is on site to shed light on the causes and circumstances of the incident.

A detour was set up by the Ministry of Transport. Route 133 remains closed near Lusignan St. in St-Charles-sur-Richelieu.
