South Africa won the three-match series against India by 2-1 despite losing the first game. The caliber and character they showed are getting a lot of praise from everyone. The Indian team fought well but they could have done better because the Indian Test team we know is far better than this.

India had some great performers in this series. KL Rahul scored a hundred on the first day of the first Test match. Mohammed Shami ended up with 14 wickets and Jasprit Bumrah also got 12 wickets. Shardul Thakur did amazingly well in the first innings of the second Test picking seven out of 10 South African wickets. Rishabh Pant scored a hundred on the last innings of the last Test match. Kohli was deprived of a hundred again but he never looked out of form.

South Africa’s Dean Elgar played a fantastic knock, scoring an unbeaten 96 to win a game for his team. The best performer in this series was Keegan Peterson, who scored 276 runs in six innings which included three fifties. Kagiso Rabada was unplayable in many parts of the Test series, he picked 20 wickets in three Test matches and got good support from Marco Jensen, who picked 19 wickets.

The series had some great performers but there were some ordinary performers too. A lot more was expected from some players but they failed to deliver.

Here are three players who might be dropped after South Africa vs India Test series:

1. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane has been a part of many memorable triumphs of the Indian Test team in recent times. He even captained India in a few memorable Test matches. However, he failed to make a mark as a batter for Team India. He was vice-captain of the Indian Test team before the South Africa series but due to his performances, he was sacked just before the series.

From the start of 2020, Rahane has played 19 Test matches and has scored 819 runs in 35 innings. He has scored only one hundred and three fifties after 2019. In this Test series, he scored 136 runs in six innings at an ordinary average of 22.67. He scored one fifty but failed to covert it in a big score.

His place in the team is in danger a little more because Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari are waiting for their opportunities. Iyer scored a hundred on his Test debut against New Zealand and looked good in his second Test match too. But unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to play in the South Africa series. It will be interesting to see if Shreyas will replace Rahane in the home series against Sri Lanka.
