RATON, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman found dead at a rest area near Raton in 1989. NMSP officers found the woman on July 3, 1989, with no identification. They believe she was transient, and no missing persons reports at the time matched her description. She died of natural causes.
She was described as:
- Approximately 50 years old
- Eyes: Blue
- Hair: Brown, worn in a long braid
- Height: 5’4″
- Weight: 123 pounds
- Clothing: White shirt and black pants
- Glasses: Orange, aviator-style
She had several bags of personal belongings, a cardboard sign that said Raton, and a Texas travel handbook, which led police to believe she was hitchhiking.
Anyone with information is asked to call NMSP Agent Nathaniel Garcia at 505-425-6771.
