Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo was forced off with an injury just seconds into the friendly match between Uruguay and Iran in Vienna (Austria) on Friday evening.
The Uruguayan suffered muscular discomfort in his right abductor muscle in a defensive action just after the start of the match and was replaced by Sebastian Coates of Sporting CP.
The Barcelona player started in the back line alongside Sebastian Caceres, but his game did not last long, in fact for only 40 seconds before he picked up the issue and in the fourth minute he was substituted.
This injury complicates Barcelona‘s defensive issues even more because Thursday saw Jules Kounde injured with France and the defender is already in Barcelona to undergo physical tests.
Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong and Ousmane Dembele also finished their international commitments with niggles, although it is the Dutch attacker who is the most worrying, and who will also return to Barcelona for tests.
Barcelona are now awaiting news from the Uruguay national team to find out the extent of Araujo‘s injury with Uruguay and decide whether or not he will stay with Uruguay or return to Barcelona.
The international defender is a permanent fixture in Xavi Hernandez‘s defence and has played in seven of Barcelona‘s eight matches this season.
