John Cena has been part of the DC Cinematic Universe since he is currently portraying the role of Peacemaker. Even then, there are some people who wonder if he’ll ever join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now Cena has finally addressed possibly joining the MCU.
While speaking during Fan Expo Dallas, John Cena was asked if he would ever be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He said that if anyone from Marvel was listening, he hoped they heard that people want to see him as a superhero in the MCU.
Cena explained that superheroes and wrestling are a lot alike. The fans are very passionate in both worlds, and the excitement reminds him of WWE fans.
“If anybody in the MCU is in the room, I hope they heard that question and heard what I heard—like, man, we’d like to see John Cena as a Marvel superhero. Thank you for the applause. I know we all love a good rivalry, right?
Here’s what I know about comics and superheroes—they run parallel to sports entertainment. The fans, the fandom, and the passion I see in the superhero universe, whether it’s DC or Marvel, remind me of passionate WWE fans.”
John Cena revealed his hope for the future, where all superheroes from different platforms could exist in the same universe. He said he would love to see characters like Iron Man and Superman come together. If that kind of crossover ever happened, it would mean someone like him, already part of the DC universe, could also step into the MCU.
However, the former leader of Cenation made it clear that he doesn’t control casting or make those big decisions, so for now, the answer is no. Even then, he hopes there will be a time when fans from all sides can come together to enjoy stories involving characters from both Marvel and DC.
Cena knows some people might not agree with him, but he hopes that in the future everyone can work together to make awesome superhero stories and comics.
“Here is my vision, here is my hope for the future: everybody plays nice in the same sandbox. I would love Iron Man to shake hands with Superman. I would love to see all superheroes, across all platforms, be involved in one big universe. So if that happens, and I get my wish, as a member of DC, I would essentially walk into the MCU.
I don’t write the checks or cast the roles, so right now my answer has to be no. But I hope there is a world where I see all these passionate people come together for comics and superheroes. I hope we can have different debates, because it’ll give us more stories to tell and spark more creativity.
And I know I’m going to get punched in the face by critics for saying this, but my long-term vision is that we can tell stories with characters from both sides of the fence. Can’t we all just get along and make some good comic books and good stories?”
While there’s no word on whether John Cena will ever join the MCU, fans are still excited about the possibility of that happening. Regardless, he is more focused on his role as Peacemaker right now in the DCU and that’s what matters at the moment.
