Deputies at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office are evacuating dozens of households in Byers after a building exploded on Friday afternoon, causing a structural fire.
Police shared the news on social media at 11:30 a.m. Friday. According to the X post, the large fire blazed on the 600 block of East Pleasant Avenue in Byers. With a code red emergency alert issued, sheriff’s deputies worked to evacuate between 25 to 30 houses in the affected area.
Deputies reported that flammables, such as fuel tanks and trucks, inside a building — assumed to be either a barn or a shop — exploded. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, as well as several fire agencies, responded.
By 11:54 a.m., police announced on X that the fire was under control, although it was not yet extinguished, and no injuries had been reported.
