Oppressive Heat Continues: 15 Fury Alert Day in Effect
We’re under another 15 Fury Alert Day, and unfortunately, not much is going to change from yesterday. The heat and humidity will remain oppressive, and dangerously hot conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday.
Temperatures will rise quickly this morning, reaching around 90 degrees by noon under sunny skies. It will look nice — but it won’t feel that way.
Dew points are staying in the 70s, which means there isn’t much separation between the actual temperature and the amount of moisture in the air. That results in very high relative humidity, which has a serious impact on the body. Sweat won’t evaporate efficiently, and your body’s built-in cooling system just doesn’t work well in these conditions. That can raise your internal temperature quickly and put you at risk for heat exhaustion.
Even overnight, there’s little relief. Lows will only fall into the mid-70s, so forget about opening your windows. It’s going to be another sultry night.
Tuesday brings more of the same. Temperatures remain dangerously high with only a small chance for an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. Don’t expect that to bring much relief — the humidity will still be overwhelming.
By Wednesday, we might see a few degrees shaved off the thermometer, but humidity levels stay high. Thunderstorm chances increase in the afternoon, which could at least bring temporary cooling in some areas.
Thursday continues the hot and humid trend with more scattered storms during the afternoon and early evening. And Friday? We’re back near 90 degrees again, but without much in the way of rain chances — meaning no natural relief.
There is a slight break in sight. Saturday may only top out in the upper 80s, but don’t get too excited — the humidity stays elevated, and it will still feel uncomfortable.
By Sunday, the 90s return, and so does the high humidity.
Looking ahead to early July, we may finally catch a bit of a break with slightly cooler temperatures, but we’re not quite there yet. Until then, take this heat seriously: stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if you’re outdoors, and check in on anyone vulnerable to extreme heat.
