Former world No. 12 Borna Coric has pulled out late of the Davis Cup Finals and he will be replaced by Nino Serdarusic. Coric’s nightmare season continues as he hasn’t played since March. In May, Coric underwent a shoulder injury.
Coric had been battling a shoulder issue for an extended period and eventually decided it was the best for him to surgically repair it. Coric missed Wimbledon, the Tokyo Olympics and US Open but he was hopeful he would be able to represent Croatia at the Davis Cup Finals.
Borna Coric, who hasn’t played since March and had shoulder surgery in May, was meant to be part of Croatia’s squad for the Davis Cup Finals, but Croatia captain Vedran Martic said yesterday Coric can’t play after all and he’s been replaced by Nino Serdarušić.

Coric said nothing worked so the surgery was the only option
“Hi everyone, I am currently in New York as I had surgery on my right shoulder yesterday. I have been dealing with shoulder pain for some time now and despite trying a whole range of recovery techniques it was clear a more permanent solution was needed.
After talking to leading doctors together with my team, I decided the best option was to have surgery,” Coric said in a Facebook post in May. “The operation went extremely well, I am very thankful to the HSS Sports Medicine Institute team and especially doctor David Altchek.
“Now it is time to recover and work hard to be back on court soon. Thank you for all the support as always.” Croatia will be led by Marin Cilic at the Davis Cup Finals. “I think it has (evolved). We have new experiences and the Davis Cup has brought us new things, even though everything hasn’t fallen into place for us yet.
We are all still connected to the old Davis Cup, home and away ties, and the great atmosphere. We are very motivated, we will meet Australia and Hungary and I believe we can make a solid result. The goal is to pass the group, enter the quarterfinals, and then whatever happens, happens,” Cilic told the Croatian Tennis Federation.
