HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Deputies are investigating a possible double murder after two bodies were found on an Orange County trail.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) confirms men riding four-wheelers found the bodies Sunday around 3:00 p.m. near a power-line easement. The sheriff’s office said the bodies are of a young white female and a young black male; both under the age of 20.
Family members told ABC11 that the male body was Devin Clark. Clark was 18 years old and a student at Eastern Alamance High School.
Investigators believe the female killed was 14-year-old Lyric Woods. She was a student at Cedar High School in Orange County.
Investigators said both Clark and the female appear to have been shot. That’s why they’re investigating the case as a homicide. But more details are expected when the medical examiner’s report is completed.
Monday, Sheriff Blackwood issued the following statement: “As a parent, I cannot imagine how excruciating the wait for confirmation of the victims’ identity is. However, the process is important and critical to lead us to the person or persons responsible for this horrific crime. I’m asking for your patience as we, along with other investigative agencies, do the work necessary to seek justice for the victims and their families.”
ABC11 will have more reaction from the family of Devin Clark starting at 4 p.m.
